The entry level to professional performance. The QM4 15” powered 2-way loudspeaker is the tough, reliable, speaker system that delivers performance way above its class. Both lightweight and easy to use the QM4 ticks all the boxes when it comes to performance, price and a long service life. The QM4 has a number of benefits all sound guys needing mobile sound will appreciate. Whether you are a DJ, musician, A/V professional or you just need portable sound that won’t let you down, the QM4 is the active professional’s partner as a stand alone system, or as part of a multi-way PA.
Lightweight, powerful, big on bass, and built to perform in tough conditions are the qualities demanded by professionals in a powered speaker system. While every manufacturer might have these goals in mind, achieving them at a realistic price point is not so easy. Quest has addressed this challenge with advanced engineering and design processes. The heart of the QM4 is the Quest Hybridtec Amplifier System; a lightweight amplification package that combines the best features of both analogue and digital technologies. Loudspeaker components give the most output for the least weight and the heavy gauge front steel grille and high quality timber ply casing protect your investment in a way that is both practical and stylish.
As an engineering company you don’t advance by just blindly following the same road travelled by everybody else. Digital amplification is now popular, but many people complain the high frequency response is “harsh and unnatural”. This is especially true when the amplifier is driven to full power. The Quest solution to this is the Hybridtec System – an Australian developed digital\analogue hybrid amplifier module which incorporates the best of both worlds. This system has been well tried and tested on the Quest QM450a and now is available on the QM3 and QM4.
The design philosophy behind Hybridtec was simple: “use each type of technology according to its strengths, as opposed to using less appropriate technology just to meet a budget”. The result, is an amplifier with a digital low end component and an analogue high frequency section. In the case of the QM4 a hard knee analogue limiter and extra amplifier clipping protection make it almost impossible to drive the system into distortion. This combination along with significant over engineering on the cabinet and grille designs makes the QM4 one of the toughest and durable products on the market.
The 15” QM4 features a very smooth frequency response, extending further down to achieve an even bigger bass sound; while still maintaining a very natural sounding vocal response – often hard to achieve with a large bass driver. In the case of the QM4 however, Quest Engineering has paid particular attention to maintaining vocal integrity. The 85 x 75 degree elliptical wave guide gives even coverage with a minimum of feedback causing “hotspots”.
Further EQ control is available with both cut and boost HF/LF controls on the QM4 preamplifier section. This is more convenient than the current fashion of preset user adjustments. The input section of the QM4 allows for either microphone or line level input from 1/4″ inch jack or XLR connectors.
The QM4 casing is made of the same heavy duty birch ply wood as our high performance and industry trusted HPI systems. Finished with a road worthy black paint coating and fitted with a wrap-around heavy gauge protective steel grille, the QM4 has been crafted to endure even the most demanding environments and is built to last.
